After having been through the perils of the publishing world, and publishing a novel, I decided to seek out other venues for book publication. I looked at Amazon and their Createspace segment. I searched the internet when it was rumored that Barnes and Noble was about to launch a huge ebook offer for unpublished authors. Because I, like many others prefer that dedicated human connection, decided to keep searching for the perfect website where I could market my books, and of course, secure a better percentage of the profits.

Being an avid reader, and now a novelist, I wanted my books to be featured on a website that understood the struggles of unknown authors. After several days of research, I was beginning to believe that my dreams of finding such a site where pointless. Nearly every search engine I used only provided me with companies who would 'do the work for me' for a hefty fee.

Well, I like many other new authors just do not have unlimited monetary resources at my fingertips. One day when fellow author Kevin Davison and I were chatting, he told me about a website that he felt was rather visionary.

That website was Off the Bookshelf, and it is run by Scott Weisenthal. Scott, who is an author as well, found the costs of printing and getting your book available to the public was not only expensive but labor intensive. So Scott decided to form a website for new authors, like himself, who were seeking a place to market their books at a very reasonable price.

Because we stand behind Scott and what he does, we feel it is important for other authors, and readers, to know about his wonderful website and his dedication to authors. This website not only gives new authors a venue to showcase their works, it also gives readers the ability to discover a new author who just might become their favorite. Perhaps the best part of offthebookshelf.com is: it is so easy to use.

First all an author needs to do is set up an author's account. It is up to the author what type of information is listed on the site for their biography and if they would like to include a picture. Once this is done, the author's 'back office' is created. From the back office the author can add content. The type of book size selected determines the specifications for the pdf that should be uploaded, or you can use the website's Word converter. If the author does not feel comfortable doing this on their own, for a very small nominal fee, Off the Bookshelf will do it for you.

The published work can be submitted with the author's own cover art or it can be designed through an on-site cover art generator which is a breeze to use. Once this done, the author selects the price they would like their novel to sell at to the general public. The fee for setup is a mere $35 charge, and the author has the ability to purchase their own copies at cost.

The adjustment time is approximately 3 to 5 days before the final product is ready for publication and available for sale. What about shipping? Well, every order that we have placed, as well as others I have spoke with, was received in 5-7 business days. For an additional fee of $15 for an ISBN, and $20 for registry with Barnes and Noble as well as Amazon, the novel has the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of potential readers.

You can even do your registry with the Library of Congress for the copyright on the site. Secondly, the author also has the ability to set their books up as E-books. It takes approximately 48 hours to get the book set for E-book, and Off the Bookshelf provides information on how to download it into nearly every reader available. Off the Bookshelf also offers publicity and advertising packages which are completely optional and are available in various price ranges. They also offer complete and original cover designs.

Scott recently sponsored the Great American Author Contest through the website in which twenty semi-finalists were selected to compete for three spots in their upcoming television commercial due to air on NBC sometime this fall. He actively pursues venues to spotlight the authors who are members on the Off the Bookshelf website, including the opportunity to have a copy of your book displayed at the Self Publishing Expo on October 2nd, 2010 in New York City.

The customer service and response is exceptional. We cannot recommend a better website to market your unpublished novel. Please visit www.offthebookshelf.com and browse the site, search titles and authors, and see for yourself what the next revolution in self publishing looks like.  Because of Off the Bookshelf''s dedication to the self-published author, ECP has chosen to support and endorse them as the only self-publishing business that we reccomend to our clients.
